Core Values

EMPOWERMENT

A coach should never gatekeep their knowledge and simply prescribe workouts for their athletes to blindly follow. We believe in helping our athletes to understand the science behind their training plans so that they feel empowered to work with their coach as an active partner in their training plan development, giving them the confidence needed to reach their finish line and beyond!

aDVENTURE

Training isn’t easy. Training isn’t even always fun. But one thing that training should never do is stop you from doing the things that you love. We believe that an integral part of your success as an endurance athlete is maintaining that sense of adventure. So, go ahead and climb that mountain, go on that kayaking trip, read that book. We will work with you to help push your boundaries while making sure that you can keep being you!

Your coach

A man jumping energetically on a forest trail, wearing a blue shirt, shorts, and running shoes, with a backpack and cap.

My name is Kris Komm, and I grew up in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. I was never an outdoors person, but soon after moving to Vancouver, British Columbia, I discovered the incredible mountains and trail network of North Shore and Sea to Sky region, and that’s when my obsession with all things trail running and ultramarathons started!

Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to run some of the most amazing trails and challenge myself at some of the toughest races out there. My favorite part about trail running is that with only my own two feet, I can access the most beautiful places in this corner of the earth.

As far as training philosophy, I am a staunch believer in quality over quantity. Not getting caught up in distance allows one to make the most out of each workout and be adequately recovered for the next one! While many programs prescribe absurdly long runs (sometimes on back to back days!) I strongly believe my approach to training has led to consistent growth and injury free success. In training for the Fat Dog 120 mile race in 2024, I never once ran more than 30km on any given day, and arrived on race day the fittest I’ve ever felt as a runner!

Equipped with the skills and knowledge from undertaking the UESCA Ultrarunning Coach Certification, I employ an evidence-based approach that focusses on workout quality and emphasizes proper recovery, while empowering athletes by giving them the knowledge to feel confident in their training.
